Discovery

Rexodus is a four-issue graphic novel that blends sci-fi, dinosaurs, and world-saving stakes into one explosive story. Steelehouse Productions assembled a creative team led by writer James Farr and illustrator Jon Sommariva (Red J) to bring it to life.

Invisible Element was brought on to handle art direction, typography, and illustration for the book’s sound effects—adding a bold layer of visual storytelling to the mix.

Process

Rather than rely on modified fonts or recycled effects, every sound was crafted by hand—designed to reflect the intensity, scale, and pacing of each scene.

From out of this world explosions to quiet moments of tension, more than 100 unique onomatopoeia illustrations were created using Illustrator and Photoshop. Special care was taken to complement Jon Sommariva’s linework and composition, ensuring the typography felt seamlessly integrated into each panel.

Results

The final result added a distinct visual identity to the series, elevating its action with expressive, purpose-built lettering. Rexodus stood out not only for its story and characters but for the craft behind every “BAKOOM,” “FWUMP,” and “SKWIP.”

The graphic novel became a showcase of the creative forces who brought this timeless story to life.
